Introducing LawNet2
LawNet2 was officially launched by The Honourable
The Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong on 5 July 2007. First introduced in 1990,
LawNet boasts access to more than 20 repositories of legal information covering
primary and secondary materials, amongst them, Singapore case law, legislation
and the Heritage Law Reports. Periodicals such as the Singapore Journal of
Legal Studies, Singapore Academy of Law Journal and textbooks from the Subordinate
Courts as well as Legal Updates from law firms, government departments and
legal institutions are also available.
A Comprehensive Research Tool
LawNet2 now offers instant access to the entire collection of English cases
dating as far back as 1865. Provided by Justis Publishing Ltd and the Incorporated
Council of Law Reporting, the English case law, comprising the complete archive
of the Weekly Law Reports and the Law Reports, have been seamlessly integrated
with the Singapore resources to offer a single point of unlimited access to
a comprehensive suite of legal information.
Said Mr Vijay Parwani, a sole-proprietor with
Parwani & Co, 'The availability of English cases on Lawnet2 is most welcomed.
Now with a click of a mouse, solo practitioners can boast to their clients
that they too have access to the latest developments both locally and in England,
a claim which was previously only reserved for the medium and large firms.
'
Get More Work Done in Less Time
The LawNet2 search engine has been significantly enhanced to enable lawyers
to navigate through the corpus of legal resources easily.
Lawyers can get more work done in less time by
simultaneously searching through an entire suite of research databases in
just a few clicks. They can easily drill down their searches by sources or
make a quick reference trace check on whether a case has been referred to,
followed or distinguished.
A helpful feature of the new service which will be appreciated by less IT
savvy lawyers is the rich cross-referencing and linking between cases which
makes it much easier to ?research effortlessly.
Customise Search with Intuitive Tools
The intuitive and user-friendly Legal Workbench Tools will enable you to:
1 Keep track and manage time spent on research for each client. All you have
to do is enter your own client reference and click 'Start'. The timing is
automatically stored, and can be exported in a file format to your desktop.
2 Save important searches.
3 Use automated e-mail reminders to remind you of research that needs to be done later.
4 Monitor new developments by subject areas under 'My Updates'.
5 Bookmark cases or websites for future reference
With a nifty tool like last search, you will
also never have to worry about starting your research all over again when
you re-visit the portal the next time. Just click on the last search completed
and continue from there.
Combined BizNet and Litigation Searches
Litigation and BizNet databases have also been categorised under a new module
called Due Diligence and integrated to enable one combined search for easy
retrieval of reports.
In the words of The Honourable The Chief Justice Chan at the launch, LawNet 2 is indeed 'indispensable for all practitioners in Singapore'.
